Ugly Dogs Don’t Know They Are Ugly

I know a long title, and what does dogs have to do with sexy guys?

In a recent discussion, one of the topics was how some ugly guys could apply to model for a site, and the response was, that ugly dogs don’t know they are ugly. Which got me to thinking about our entire perception of beauty.

Truth is, I am fat, am not attractive and yet David chose me, for his life partner, his husband. So I wonder, why did he choose me? He isn’t unattractive, by society standards and those dimples, are to die for. Add into that he is a pretty good person, inside. He cares, can be very affectionate, so why did he latch onto me? I am no catch, not rich, certainly not a sexual God nor do I have a super sex drive.

Which makes me wonder, if perhaps we got it wrong, in our description of sexy.

Both David and I, enjoy looking at others. And yes, they do indeed fit into what society terms HANDSOME, DESIRABLE, TO DIE FOR. But, and that is the big but too, why then do we wind up with someone who is far off from that supposed ideal?

Is it that the superficial appearances are good to dream about, to whack off to, while for living with someone, we want a lot more than just mere physical appearance, and superficial looks? Do we really want that poster boy for a perfect twink as a partner, with the perfect penis, the perfect sex drive, the ideal butt, or do we want someone who will lend a shoulder when we are hurting, who will simply look at us with a love sick look when we are out to dinner, and not just at the bulge in the waiter’s pants?

I wonder, why is it that superficial appearances sell, while we choose someone less than ideal in looks, far from ideal really, to be our soul mate?
